Hunt has significantly grown since its modest beginnings in 2009 when our company was based out of Will & Beth’s Washington, D.C. apartment. (Learn more about Hunt’s journey in our founders’ story). As we continue our 15th year in business, we can think of no better way to celebrate than to share our success with others!
This year, we’ve selected 15 charities to donate $1,000 each towards their mission, resulting in $15,000 total in gifts overall! Now, enough about us. Let’s talk about this month’s organization, Southern Mutts Rescue!
About Southern Mutts Rescue
Founded by Angie Young, Southern Mutts is an animal rescue organization based in Greenwood, MS dedicated to moving stray “mutts” off the streets and into loving homes with the help of local animal shelters. While they primarily focus on the Leflore County area, the organization’s efforts span far and wide to help any animal in need. They work to raise money to cover the medical expenses of rescued animals and are huge advocates for spay/neuter programs. Angie says she aspires “to help spay and neuter dogs whose owners live below poverty level and simply can’t afford it.”
Angela shared that Mississippi has a significant overpopulation problem. Southern Mutts aims to combat this challenge by facilitating the spaying/neutering of stray animals. Additionally, the organization holds free events to microchip, vaccinate, and donate pet-care supplies several times a year. Last but not least, Southern Mutts Rescue also works with Northbound Rescue to move dogs from shelters in the Greenwood area to the northern part of the country. In 2023 alone, the organization rehomed over 500 animals thanks to this partnership.
All it takes is one look at the many before and after photos Southern Mutts Rescue takes and you know that their efforts make an incredible difference in the lives of countless animals.
When discussing the funds from Hunt, Anglea said, “Southern Mutts Rescue was honored [to be chosen] out of numerous 501(c)3s that applied for the grant due to tireless efforts addressing the overpopulation and rescue of homeless animals in the Mississippi Delta.”
We feel privileged to support the efforts of such an amazing organization, and encourage you to learn more about Southern Mutts Rescue by visiting their website. You too can help pups like those pictured throughout this blog (Matilda, Farrah and Tommie Lynn). We hope you’ll check them out!
